P5: My personal Statement

I am the youngest in my family, which makes me determined to work hard and show my family that I can do well and achieve what I want in life. I can sometimes be quiet but I'm working on talking to bigger groups. I enjoy sharing my ideas with the people I am working with. I like making my friends and family laugh and cheering them up when they need it. I'm very positive and hard working and I try to do more wherever possible. I am very reliable with my work. I am imaginative and creative and it shows in my work. I am punctual, trustworthy and willing to learn. In the future I hope to work in a creative career and create content/produce, which will be enjoyed all over the world.

During my course at college I got a chance to make props for a music video, as well as a short film. I found creating them very fun and exciting, as I could easily design and create exactly what we needed for the videos. I enjoy watching the 'behind the scenes' of films and seeing the process of development of the props and sets. I feel the props make the scene real. Harry Potter would be very boring without the wands!

For the music video I created a Nintendo NES controller from two small cardboard boxes and some coloured foam. For my short film 'Frankenkitty' I created Frankenkitty from stuffed toys I found at a charity shop. I cut up the toys and hot glued/stitched them together.

I also have a love for baking and I bake at least once a week. I watch a lot of baking tutorials online and especially The Great British Bake Off. These excite me and give me the drive to make and experiment with different recipes. I have recently made chocolate covered mint meringues, a lemon cheesecake with summer berries, a coffee cake with chocolate covered coffee beans and millionaire's shortbread. I never really thought about making it into a career, but someone opened my eyes to the idea. They showed me how fun and rewarding it can be creating things from scratch for people to enjoy.

As you can tell I enjoy a lot of creative activities. In my spare time I like to work with polymer clay and pastels to create items such as fridge magnets, charms and quirky decorations. I sometimes sew as well. I have made a cat out of socks and have experimented with felting.

In the future I would like to continue to work creatively be it in props or baking. I would very much like to work in a cafe, waking up early and baking things to sell that day. I can also imagine working from designs and using a range of materials to create the props for a film or TV show.

I am planning on taking a gap year before university. In this year I hope to get an apprenticeship in a bakery or cafe. This will give me the work experience and confidence to later get a job while at university.
